All vessels must have at least one Personal Flotation
Device (PFD) per person on board.

All PFDs must be in good condition and be the correct
size for the intended wearer.

Vessels 16' in length or longer must have at least
one USCG approved throwable PFD on board and
immediately available.

Children under 6 must wear a USCG approved PFD
at all times while underway on any vessel less than
26' in length on Florida waters.

Each person on board a Personal Watercraft (PWC)
must wear a PFD and ignition safety switch (lanyard).
Inflatable PFDs may not be worn on PWCs.

The original certificate of registration must be on
board when the vessel is operated. Each vessel
must carry a sound producing device that is audible
for at least one-half mile.

PWC operation at night is prohibited.

PWC must adhere to all boating laws.

Vessels less than 16', operated between sunset
and sunrise, must carry a minimum of three visual
distress signals approved for nighttime use.

If smoke and/or flares are used, at least 3 must be
carried on board the vessel. They must be USCG
approved, in good condition, unexpired, and
readily accessible.

Visual Distress Signals (VDSs)...
All vessels are required to carry night signals when
operating between sunset and sunrise

Vessels less than 16', operated between sunset
and sunrise, must carry a minimum of 3 visual
distress signals approved for nighttime use.

Recreational vessels 16' or longer, and non-motorized
open sailboats 26' or longer must carry both day and
night signals.

If smoke and/or flares are used, at least 3 must be
carried on board the vessel. They must be USCG
approved, in good condition, unexpired, and readily
